Chatel is a traditional Savoyard working farming village blessed with charm. A classic picture postcard in summer and winter. From early December to late April it is like Christmas all season.
Chatel village has some great fashion and sports clothing shops, souvenir and craft shops, newsagent and photography shops. Restaurants, Pizzerias, Creperies and some bars offer traditional Savoyard cuisine, snacks and takeaways. All winter season Chatel puts on different types of entertainment for all to enjoy.
On Monday in winter the Tourist Office offer a welcome après ski drink of Vin Chaud at the centre of the village close to the Church. Some bars have Happy Hour with light music to help you unwind. Entertainment continues in the evenings. Bars have live bands, discos, karaoke and themed nights. Visit the 5 lane bowling ally.
You can be sure there will be something for everyone. Getting around in Chatel is easy on the free Navette buses that will take you just about anywhere. The Petit Train is another way to see the village. The Chatel crèche is open all year in the village to take good care of your young children. At the top end of the village is the beautiful lake Vonnes. Here you can ice-skate, try ice diving or just enjoy a stroll.
Throughout the year the Wednesday market sells regional produce from Cheeses, Sausage, Fruit and Vegetables amongst many other items. The Tourist Office and some bars have Internet facilities. Open all year are the Banks with ATM’s.
In summer the village is just as beautiful, winning many awards for its floral efforts. The fountain at lake Vonnes is the highest in France! Here you can fish for trout to take home.
During summer the village has a free open air concert every Friday in the village square. Again the buses are free giving you great access to many of the events the village has to offer.
For self–catered groups there are some great supermarkets. Farm visits and mountain refuges can be booked at through the Tourist Office.
