Skiing and SnowboardingChatel is just 1 of 12 resorts in the Portes Du Soleil linking France and Switzerland. The Portes Du Soleil is the largest linked ski area in the world offering 275 lifts and 650km of varied piste to suit every, ability. From Chatel it is possible to ski into Switzerland and back taking in the breath taking views of the Dents du Midi, Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva. Along the way, stop at one of the mountain restaurants or bars, for just a morning coffee, hot chocolate or lunchtime snack.
Chatel alone offers everything a ski holiday should have: A magnificent ski area with 83km of superb piste, covering 3 mountain areas: Super-Chatel, Barbossine and Le Linga/Pre-la-Joux. The skiing is excellent with well-maintained open pistes to tree lined runs. There are plenty of nursery slopes for the beginners. For the intermediates and advanced skiers there are super reds and challenging blacks. Super-Chatel offers a fantastic Boardercross and snow park and a tobogganing area.
LessonsThere are many ski and snowboarding lessons available for all abilities, for the beginner or those wishing to improve their technique. English speaking Stephan and Mireille of ‘Mountain Safari’ have worked with Alpine Quests for the last 5 seasons. They teach skiing and snowboarding to all ages and abilities, in private or group lessons. Peak season (Christmas, New Year, February Half-term and Easter) are in great demand. Lift PassesA Chatel or Portes du Soleil ski pass gives real value for money. The passes are ‘hands free’, so you can tuck them away in your pocket and let the automatic turnstile read the microchip.
For the beginner or those wishing to stay local, the Chatel pass is a good idea. The Portes Du Soleil ski pass is renowned to be one of the best value for money in the Alps, giving you the great opportunity to discover this vast area.
Alpine Quests can arrange to have your passes ready for you when you arrive at the chalet. Winter 2009/10 Prices: Adult 6 day PDS €205.00 Child €137.00. Chatel only: Adult €151.00 Child €113.00. Children under 5 are free. Email your requirements. Passes can be paid by credit card at your chalet. Non skiers can purchase return lift passes on 2 lifts giving them the opportunity to meet family for morning coffee, lunch, watch the ski or just soak up the sun and atmosphere. Visa & MasterCard are excepted with no added fee.
Equipment Hire
Over the years we have built up a relationship with many of the local ski hire shops and we have found one in particular that we believe is the ultimate package. The shop is local and from the moment you walk into Daniel Cruz Sports they will not only make you feel welcome, but you will be assisted right through the selection of your equipment.
The shop has a good stock of the latest skis, snowboards, boots, snowshoes and helmets. Best of all the prices are one of the lowest in the village. In addition all Alpine Quests clients receive a further 10% discount
ChildrenVillage Des Marmottons – ‘Club des Piou Piou’ ski school is especially for children aged 3-6 years. A Reception chalet, tailored with games room, quiet area and changing room. 3 rope tows and 1 ski tow. Les Mouflets - Crèche facility for children from 3 months to 6 years, based in the centre of Chatel. Open daily 08.30 to 18.30. Hourly rate €6.00. Lunch €3.60. Other packages are available.
